About Locations for Photo Sessions
To make sure you have the best experience (and to respect Kyoto’s cultural rules), here’s what to know about where we can and can’t shoot:
Recommended Locations for Photo Sessions:
-
Gion / Higashiyama
-
Charming old Kyoto streets, traditional architecture, and some beautiful nature backdrops.
- Gallery samples here
-
-
Heian Shrine Area (outside grounds only)
-
A nice blend of urban Kyoto and nature, with a more intimate, less touristy feel.
- Gallery samples here
-
-
Kamogawa River
-
Relaxed riverside atmosphere, especially beautiful in the morning or at sunset.

-
Important:
-
We cannot do photo sessions inside shrines, temples, or formal gardens.
-
If you’d like casual photos of yourselves visiting shrines, temples, or gardens, you can book a photo tour instead. Photo tours allow me to capture complimentary travel-style photos of you while you enjoy the sites — but these are not posed photo shoots.
- If there’s another location you’re interested in that you believe is okay, please let us know before booking so we can discuss!
This helps us preserve the beauty and spirit of Kyoto while still capturing amazing memories for you.
👘 Can I wear a kimono for the photo session?
Yes! If you want to wear a kimono, please book your kimono rental in advance.
-
For a morning shoot around Gion, the earliest session start time is 9:15 AM. I can recommend a rental shop near Gion that opens at 8:00 AM (most others open at 9:00 AM).
-
Please note that if the shop is closed or unavailable, that is outside of my control. I offer these suggestions as a courtesy.
-
If you book a later session, most kimono shops require returns by 5:30–6:00 PM. I am not responsible for your kimono return timing.
-
On request, I can recommend shops that allow hotel returns or next-day returns for an extra fee (paid to the shop, not to me).
You are responsible for making and managing your own kimono rental reservation.
