Best Secondhand Stores in Kyoto

06/12/2023 | Shopping

If you’re looking for some vintage clothes or secondhand stores in Kyoto, this is the guide for you. I’m a big fan of shopping secondhand, so I’ve been in dozens of stores here. However, since not every store is created equal in my eyes, here’s a list of my tried-and-true.

Each store has an additional page where you can see more about it.

2nd Street Shijo Kawaramachi

2nd Street is a popular thrifting chain with many locations around Japan. The best location in the Kyoto area is probably at Shijo Kawaramachi. They have a great selection of both upscale, expensive brands and more affordable brands. The store is organized according to style, so most everyone can find something they like.  I think that this store has the best and most consistent selection of quality clothing.

Kindal

Kindal is another popular secondhand chain in Kyoto, as well as the rest of Japan. The location inside Teramachi shopping area has a very well curated selection of clothing. A lot of high-end and luxury brands can be found here, including a fairly large men’s selection. Also has a good selection of bags.

Three Star Kyoto

This store focuses more on vintage clothing, so don’t come here searching for high-end clothes. However, the selection of vintage clothing is enormous. The store is very organized, and is done so by style, including street, dressy, 80’s, etc. The store also features various art exhibits for an interesting shopping experience.

Vintage clothing store JAM

JAM has a great of true vintage clothing and original pieces that feel vintage.  It’s not as overpriced as many of the other similar vintage shops you’ll come across. The store is catered towards men’s fashion, but things such as t-shirts and sweatshirts are great for anyone.

Big Time

This uniquely striking store is 4 floors of mostly boho and vintage European style fashions, however, they seem to have a little of everything. This store is fun to walk around, as there’s so much to take in.

There’s a lot of great stores to shop secondhand in Kyoto, but I swear by these. I hope you find some great things to take back home with you–just be careful not to buy too much and end up needing an extra suitcase!
