FAQ
because we’ve heard it all!
Do you offer just tours?
No, at this time we do not. All of our tours include photography. The unique-ness of the tours allows for the full experience of a tour (history, exploration, fun facts, etc.) while also getting photos along the way.
For those interested primarily in photography, we offer photo sessions that are specifically for providing you stunning images. These go more in-depth into the photography.
Do you offer tours or photos anywhere?
At this time, we offer tours only in Kyoto and in Nara. You can read about the itinerary for each on the product pages. It takes a lot of work to make the best route, then learn all the fun info and find all the photo spots, so it’s not something we customize currently.
For photo sessions, we offer photos in Kyoto City at an agreed upon spot. If you’re interested in photos in Osaka, please contact us directly.
What product is best for me?
For those interested in a fun tour that includes photography, we recommend one (or both!) of our photo tours. These are enjoyable for all ages and provide a unique look at these historic locations while also capturing some special moments throughout. The photo tours are not a non-stop photo shoot, but a unique combination of history and photography.
For those who are interested primarily in photography, such as for family photos, special events, or just to memorialize your exciting trip to Japan, we recommend a photo session. These sessions take us to locations best suited for photography and allow the time needed to fully capture all of your photo memories.
How many people can I bring?
We allow up to 6 people on the tours and photo sessions. If you have 7 or 8, please contact us directly.
What is the weather is bad?
In the unlikely event that the weather is too severe for photography, we will reach out beforehand to you. You will find more info in the contract provided before payment.
I want to wear kimonos. What do I need to know?
Nearly all kimono shops in Kyoto do not open until 9am. Kimonos take at least an hour to put on. If you are one or two people, I suggest booking an hour out from your kimono rental time. (I.e. you’ll make a kimono rental reservation at 9am, so you can meet me at 10am.) If you are more than two people, book an hour and a half out.
You NEED to make a reservation at a kimono rental shop in advance if you want to wear kimonos. If you do not, there is almost a 100% guarantee you’ll be late.
When you book, I provide info based on where we’re meeting/your hotel location as to where to book a kimono rental. They’re fairly affordable, and many clients wear them.
So, if you want to wear kimonos, you’ll probably want to book for at least 10am or 10:30am (if you’re 2+ people).
The only exception to this is those who are meeting me for a morning photo session around Gion. If that sounds like you, just email us.
For those wanting to wear kimonos at an evening photo session, you’ll need to consider kimono return time. Most return times are 5:30pm or 6pm (though some offer a return the following day). You can email us about that, too.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing suitable for the season. For photos, we recommend solid colors or traditional attire like kimono (rental shop advice will be provided on request after booking).
